On 26th of January, 2001 was a very horrible day for Gujarat. That was the day when many people lost their lives. Earthquake of a very high magnitude had occurred on that day.

Dhrang – Godai is a village located at the tip of the Runn of Kutch. This place was the center of the earthquake. There the earth had split sanding vibrations all over the state of Gujarat. The earthquake had occurred at 8:45 in the morning. The quake caused damage on a huge scale. Thousands of people had lost their lives. Thousands of houses and other constrictions had collapsed. The damage was gigantic. Many people were trapped in these houses. Gigantic tree and electric poles were uprooted due to the tremors. Many people become homeless. Animal, too, where helpless. It was like a terribly dream.

However, the nature’s fury brought out the best in human nature. Within no time, the news spread all over the world. Government, individuals and social organizations sent food packets, first aid, tents and even money. The army and volunteers were quick to act. They removed the debris and pulled out people trapped under it. They saved their lives by giving those medicines, food and cloths.

Many children had become orphans. They needed care. Lots of people had become homeless.

It’s truth that earthquakes cannot be controlled by human beings. However, in countries like Japan & North America, people have learnt to face such situations. In there countries, earthquakes occur very often. Therefore, people have learnt how to save their lives and belongings. Even schools train children to protect themselves in such situations.
